The President of the Republic is assisted in the performance of his official duties by the Steering Group of the Office of the President of the Republic under the chairmanship of Secretary General Jaakko Kalela. Adviser Martti Manninen deputizes for the Secretary General as required.

Cabinet Sessions are held to deal with the most important matters relating to the performance of the President's official duties and are chaired by the President of the Republic in person. The Cabinet also meets under the chairmanship of the Secretary General to deal with other business and carry out preparatory work for the Cabinet Sessions.

Assisting the President of the Republic in the performance of his official duties

The Cabinet monitors questions relevant to the duties and powers of the President of the Republic and reports on these to the President and to the Steering Group, and otherwise assists the President of the Republic in the performance of his official duties under guidelines laid down by the President.

The programmes of the President of the Republic and the President's Spouse are prepared in Cabinet Sessions attended by the Aides-de-Camp. Responsibility for the implementation of the programme lies with the Aides-de-Camp under the leadership of the first Aide-de-Camp.
